New Double Din Head Unit/Bass Box
Hello Luders
I turn 40 this year and have told my family that for my birthday I want a sound updgrade in my car. I have told them all to chip in and buy me a double din head unit. I have been looking online but cant really seem to pin point which one I want because there is so many.
So I figured I would turn to the lude brotherhood and get some advice.
What I want in the head unit is as follows
- Sat Nav (preferable but not a requirement).
- 4x50 watt output
- Bluetooth
- SD Card or
- hard drive (again preferable but not a requirement)
- Built in crossovers
- Android head unit ( I am leaving apple and going back to Samsung)
- Built in Graphic Eq
- Touch screen
- DAB radio.
The sound quality must be really good. I have heard of Pumpkin which gets good reviews, but I hear that the quality of the sound isn't that good. There are other units out there which produce better sound. Again price is a factor, but overall the package has to include the things listed above and also have good sound.
As for the woofer, it has to be 10 or 12 inch but cant take up too much boot space. I would prefer one in a ported box, as the music I listen to has deeper bass as opposed to tighter bass. If it comes with a built in amp that's a bonus but again its not a requirement. I know there are various boxes available now which are slim or fir the side of the car so any help or advice is appreciated.
So folks, what do you have in your car and what do you recommend.
Look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you are happy to keep your Android phone connected to the head unit, then Android Auto works well to provide Google (or any other) Sat Nav plus internet radio, Spotify etc.
I have used the Sony xav-ax100, which has touchscreen and is reasonably priced. Plus it can connect to a reversing camera too,

I'm in the process of talking with a company called MaxsoundCarAudio regarding the HR-V.
They really rate the current Kenwood range.
DNX7170DABs
Another option is to ditch the built in Sat Nav and go with something like this:
DMX7017DABs
With Android Auto, or Apple Car, you can then use Google/Apple maps as your Sat Nav and save money.
Seen a few vids of Andoid Auto in action and it looks rather good.
Not sure on speakers etc.....
Ohh and avoid reconditioned units, the one I have in my Lude is brilliant but can be very twitchy.

Cheers gents.
I have had Kenwood stuff before and do rate it highly.
The sat nav is not really a requirement. I just want decent sound with the built in EQ and crossovers, Bluetooth and touch screen. Do they come with a hard drive, if not a SD card is good enough.

The DMX7017DABs doesn't have a CD or MP3 player. I would want one of those on the unit

You'll have the ability to connect phone, and a USB drive stuffed full of tunes, (I have a 64GB memory stick as my music library in the Lude).Free Ranj Egg wrote:The sat nav is not really a requirement.
