Prelude 4th gen new car new problems :p
Hi all
I've not long had this 1994 prelude 2.2 vtec manual import
It's a great car, love the handling and retro dashboard.
Just have a few problems I need solving if anyone here can help??
Main problem is my speedometer appears to be very incorrect I.e. It's showing I'm doing 40mph when I'm actually doing about 27mph, this ofc affects my odometer which, when I did a test run which was 17.5km was showing on the car as 18.3, which isn't much but certainly adds up.
Anyone possibly help with this problem?
Thanks

welcome to LG
as it is an import it could be an issue with km/mph speedo convertor
these sometimes fail - that might explain the difference in the speedo....
you can remove the convertor chip and it will read in kilometers or you can buy and fit a new convertor chip off ebay for around £30.
The convertor is a little box that will be either fitted near the ecu in the passenger footwell or near the speedo unit which you can check by removing the tweeter cover on the dash.
The offset in mileage could be related to the size of wheel/tyre. They left the factory with 205/50/16 or 205/55/15 so if they have larger wheel/tyre then this could explain the small discrepancy in distance travelled.
Hope this helps

Thank you muchly I shall try thise suggestions. It has R17 wheels so if anything it should be reading under not over, but will check that converter item as i'm fine with it in Kmh
Sorry, one more thing, I have new issue arise.
There is this part, shown in the image attached in link below, that is leaking a blueish fluid. I Dipped a tissue in and it showed it was a very blue liquid, at first I thought it was the fuel pressure regulator but fuel definately isn't blue. My idle is fluctuating a lot too, though unsure if it is linked to this part.https://sta.sh/2ux1a6y7wcr?edit=1

Thats the EGR valve - it opens up a channel in the cylinder head between the exhaust and the intake.
There is no coolant flowing through it as far as i know - so that fluid must either be spraying onto it or tricking down from above. The nearest coolant pipe in that area are the 2 going to the underside of the throttle body (the idle thingamjig). Check its not spraying from there. You should have other signs if its leaking from anywhere.
If the idle valve on the bottom of the throttle body isn't getting warm coolant, you will have a wavering idle as you describe.

Nope not washer fluid,
Have soaked up the liquid and will see if it arises again.
Very likely coolant, but am also unsure where it's leaking from.
will keep my eye out.

i think its leaking from that hard pipe just above it. Where it joins to the rubber pipe far away, you can see the pipe has white deposits on it - an indicator its leaking from there. Can't quite see, but it might be missing a clip?
Either way, any rubber pipe for the cooling system is likely to be due for replacement. Drive it round the block and check that pipe, be careful, it could pop off or let go without much warning which wouldn't be pleasant.

You were correct it does appear to be leaking from there. the cllip had slid down. Well noticed thank you muchly.
Am going to eventually take out and clean the Idleair control valve next to the throttle body to help the idle.
Hoping to learn a lot from this car, thankfully the engine bay is huge which is a big help.
