Post by 4thgenphil » Mon Jun 03, 2013 2:32 pm

Right i know drokk all about this crap except for how to turn the thing on and off

my surrond sound is a few years old now and was working perfectly, then didnt :(

symptoms:

it sound like you are underwater on all but the PLM 1,2 + 3 sound settings (i have no idea what PLM means) its the option where you can choose between church, studio and such the like.

is the AMP ballsed?

cheers

I end up buying a new surround amplifier every few years because of this. :x
The fact that yours works on certain settings means there may be some hope.

Try re-wiring all the speakers and make sure all plugs and connections are secure.
Maybe re-set the unit back to factory default.

Other than that I can't help you, sorry. :(

well you could open it up

check solder points and traces, replace some caps if your handy with a soldering iron

I bought techinics amp about 10 years ago, used it ever since I paid quite a lot about £220 when it was new

still going strong..

I did this with my last one and couldn't find anything untoward. No bulging caps!! :?
I replaced it with a second-hand Denon. It's HUGE and old-fashioned but sounds great. :P :P

 yes just put some flux on the end :|

my techinics is old ish,

I think the older stuff is built better, but caps do wear out eventually

I fixed one of my old stereo's by resoldering the rca connection bit, it crackled everytime I move the cable

so its worth having a go if your gonna throw it away
