Currently h23a2. For more power, turbo or H22a?

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Currently h23a2. For more power, turbo or H22a?

Post by AndyPandy1 » Wed Jun 04, 2014 3:14 pm

Hi Guys.

As some of you may no i have the 1992 2.3l man with the h23a2 in it and I want to give it a bit more power.

I got left by a Clio on the way to work the other day so my desire is now even stronger

I dont want it to be a rocket ship but around the 6.5 - 7sec to 60 range.

I work at a garage so cost for labour will be significantly lower but i'm not sure weather to go with a small turbo or to get the h22a? I do very much like the idea of getting VTEC aswell, but if one will take less time (less bits to change) and/or be much cheaper then I will go for that.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Andy

VTEC swap would be your best bet. You'd need the ECU and engine (with loom). Driveshafts/gearbox, ancilliaries and dizzy can be re-used from the H23. Depending on UKDM/JDM engine, you may need to run a cable for the knock sensor to the ecu, not too hard to do though!

I wouldn't worry too much about being left by a Clio. They are roughly 200bhp in a pencil case, whereas you're roughly 200bhp in an actual car.

...and also, Clio drivers have to drive as fast as possible to minimise the embarrassment of being seen in it

^^ He has an H23 so it will only be 160bhp. Get an H22 and it will be all good 8-)

You would need only ecu + few wires extra for the swap, i did it last summer. Everything else can be used from h23.
