Stunning example Curt, 5k seems like a steal for such a mint example.

Yeah I would buy this in a heartbeat for £5k. As long as it is as good as it looks in the pictures in the flesh and there are no mechanical gremlins.

However, it is a niche market, far worse cars, such as the XR2 mentioned above fetch more money simply because there is more demand for them. The demand for Preludes is practically 0, if it were a DC2 teg in that condition and mileage it would be at least £10k if not more.

In principle, 4.5-5K wouldn't scare me off, but the condition would. I just couldn't keep it like that.

As said, the market is small. I believe that it's even smaller for a car that has to be used sparingly, garaged and pampered in order not to lose its value too quickly. Set as high a price as you dare, but expect it to be a while before the right buyer turns up.

I know I sound like a broken record on this issue, but to me it's a combination of the size of the market and 'find another'.
In other words, it would be a bit easier to find similar examples of well cared for £2000-£3000 preludes with 80k - 90k perhaps, but to find another like yours would take a while.... In that respect, anyone that is in the market for a Prelude like yours will, IMHO, have had a lude or two before and will -know- what they are about, their 'worth' (as a car/performance vehicle, not a commodity) and how unusual a condition like yours is and would therefore be prepared to pay the money for it. Let's be honest, in today's climate of similar age/type vehicles we know it's totally worth £5k, you just need one of the (admittedly at this stage) small market of prospective buyers that agree to find it.
If it were a CRX, we wouldn't even be having this conversation, purely because the buyers market is bigger. The Prelude went a bit under the radar which has been both it's curse and in time I believe will be it's blessing - as people realise what they are and can do and what a relative bargain they are compared to civics/CRX/tegs blah blah they will start to come up more. All that time there are less and less on the road which will ultimately mean greater demand.
Look at the left-field jap cars that are in demand now just because people hadn't really heard of them so they went by the by - estates, saloons, you name it. As a result, no one else they know has one/knows what it is = 'cool' = value goes up.
It looks like a lovely car and I wish you the best of luck with the sale and that it goes to the right person. 8-)

lovely car Curt, hope if you do decide to sell you get the money you want and it goes to a buyer who will look after the car as well as you have

Bit quick off the mark there  I realise this is just a value enquiry. I think the advice above is sound and these guys know more about the relatively specialist Prelude market than anyone. The market is small and demand limited compared to say an Integra, Skyline, SX, 968 even 944 but a car like this will always find a buyer at a fair price but it can take some time. Lovely car and spec, any purchaser would need to keep this as a 2nd or 3rd car to maintain condition and value.

Hi all, Curt has kindly emailed me and he is keeping the car and not selling at this time. Can't blame him at all, lovely car. So unfortunately I'm still Lude'less and the hunt goes on, doubt I will find one quite as good as this though :(
