Grand Cayman

Post by Rich » Wed May 16, 2012 12:19 pm

Just returned home from a Caribbean cruise where Grand Cayman was one of the ports of call...

I so want to move there! Nice weather, white sand, clear blue sea, tax free, laid back Caribbean people, but most of all - nearly every other car is a Honda!

I saw three Preludes that day, two 4th gens and one 5th. I didn't get any photos though unfortunately, we were in a land rover going the opposite way & by the time I got my camera out it was too late. I didn't expect to see so many.

Our guide was telling me how they love Hondas out there, particularly their reliability. He told me about his mate who had an old Prelude sitting in his garage for years (sacrilege I know, I didn't ask why), the body had totally rusted away so he thought it was completely worthless but then he hooked a battery up, turned the key & it started first time.

He also said he preferred the 4th gen for its looks. All this before I even told him I was an enthusiast with 2 of them back home. Made my day :D

Nice. My cousin is actually working out there! So I see her pictures popping up every now and then with turtles and swimming and generally being an amazing place. Definitely need to visit

Best holiday i had was on Grand Cayman - stayed at The Villa of the Galleons next to the Governers house on Seven mile beach - swam with the stingrays (thats was well before Steve Irwin died) and released a turtle back into the sea - we named him Hubert Elvis - wonder if hes still alive :)
Never saw any Preludes ;)
But did see a lot of cannabis plants growing wild

We were going to swim with stingrays but we did an island tour instead so that we could get a feel for the island, as we're planning on going back and renting a villa some time. I will keep an eye out for wild cannabis plants ;) I can't believe you never saw any Preludes, maybe we saw the only ones on the island - it's not all that big and we did travel from George Town all the way to Rum Point and back. We went to Hell & back last time we were there & I think I saw one 5th Gen up that way. You must've at least saw some Integras though right?

You must be loaded if your going back and renting a villa - are you taking bags of money over there for someone
I cant remember when i went but it must have been about 17 years ago so not long after the Prelude was launched in Japan-so thats maybe why i didnt see any.I didnt buy my lude until 1999 or 2000.

Next time you go can you bring me back some Tortuga Gold Rum (the 160 percent proof stuff )

No I'm not loaded, but between me & the wife we can afford a bit of luxury every now & then. Like this cruise holiday cost us around £2k each but we booked it last September & paid it all off in stages etc.

Ah, that would make sense. I didn't see any new cars out there come to think of it so they probably take a while to import them.

I'll look out for that rum, but I can only bring a litre through customs I think so I can only bring myself a bottle back - otherwise I would get one for you too.

I just brought back some Wray & Nephew rum from Jamaica, & I thought that was strong at 63%abv!

Wray & Nephew rocks but you can get it over here but the Tortuga Gold isnt exported - probably cause its 80 percent pure alcohol and very flamable.
