I think the most simple way of putting it would be like hot coffee in a cup, the steam coming off of it takes it's fair share of the energy with it causing cooling, so when it's hot and in a cold place the steam will take even more energy with it more rapidly. They use a similar technique with lasers and magnetic fields to create bose-einstein condensates and fermiom(spelling) condensates, very close to absolute zero and they have some mad characteristics lol, then of course we have higgs-bosun's, find one of them little fellows and you're instantly in the limelight

The trouble it that with the direct relationship you just explained, the hot water has to pass through the temp range the cold water started in so takes more energy change and subseqently time to do this.

I think it does depend on the cooling equipment too, I don't think a domestic fridge would have the power for it to work properly. That report also said it's very situation dependant and only covers certain temps so it could be anything causing it :?

i live in a new build and have the same problem with hot water out of the cold tap for a short while. im also on a meter so water wastage is not my thing, i've learnt to turn the tap off whilst brushing my teeth and to turn the hose off instead of letting it run down the drive whilst washing the car but when it comes to watering the garden i do use a hose.
