So as it happens it's actually cheaper and more reliable to do it myself than send with a courier who will insure glass and make sure it turns up unbroken.
Just to add to the above, even if I'd used the Stagea it would have only been at most 60 quid in fuel and that would have been a longer trip too, how the couriers justify a couple of hundred quid is beyond me even if they are ensuring the glass turns up unbroken.
