I was on autotrader today looking at sub £500 turbo diesel estates - my colleague says to me if I want to save money I should buy an even more economical modern diesel

if I can save £100 a week driving a £390 Mk3 Golf that I can toss once mileage/puppy/abuse have finally ended it's life then why buy a brand new car that'll cost a fortune both to buy and service (dual mass flywheels spring to mind...) just for the sake of a possible extra 10mpg.
I don't really understand the place of modern diesels... A diesel is a work horse, so buy a shitter and proceed in killing it. Petrol cars are to be enjoyed, and worth spending money on
Back on the subject of breaking cars - whilst it would be sad to see a Lude broken, at the end of the day everyone is entitled to do what's best for them. If maximising return is the priority then I guess you have to look at breaking the car. Although if you think of the trouble of stripping the car, time taken to find buyers, cost of disposing of the left over shell (not sure if anywhere collects shells for free?) it's probably going to be more of a quick win to chose your minimum price and sell it whole - just stand firm against silly offers and there'll be someone who'll take it
Just my two pence
