HP/Compaq used to be good, the board in question is probably the power board for the flourescent tube that backlights the screen, they are a service item but can be a bit of a pain to get to. Tbh though a new one shouldn't be doing that, a few years down the line maybe but not now so take it back and demand a full refund given that two have now been duff, never know they might offer you a better model from a different brand for your time. Just remember though, as hard as it is, it's not the fault of the store bods, they get it in the neck and in cases like this it's not thier fault. Yes get grumpy if they screw you around as iirc you are entitled to all your money back within 30 days for any reason you care to mention or not mention a slong as it's back in the same box with charger and extras.
Good luck dude and my old laptop is a Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo D, still going strong bar the HDD but it is years old and runs a full desktop Prescot core P4 with hyper threading, known to get chuffing hot but never had and issues with it and had it for sooooooooooo long
