Sounds like the drive may be goosed, possibly the motor. Can you hear it spin up?

As mentioned above, try a lens cleaner, if that doesn't work you can open the PS3 up and try to clean the lens manually with a cotton bud. If still no joy then you will need to try a new lens. I imagine they arent too expensive. Think the ones on the PS1 & PS2 were easy to replace, just a few screws and a data plug but not sure about the PS3

graphics are not millon miles away, I find the controller more accurate on xbox, and online works granted I have to pay for it.rob quilter wrote:taz8520 wrote:A better idea, buy a Xbox
Worse graphics, no blu ray, a controller that feels in-accurate, and having to pay to play online...no thanks.

I had 2 Xbox 360's and they both got the rrod, had the ps3 for years with no problems.
all these new consoles are not built well, the ps3 super slim is very cheaply made so avoid that one
Ive had my dreamcast 11 years never missed a beat

could try replacing the laser, on old ps2 you could tweek the Potentiometer to extend the life abit so you could look into that.
