Only downside is that HIDs don't like being flashed as they take a few seconds to warm up, so this isn't ideal for flashing headlights at other drivers.
That's good info to know, does this mean they don't flash or does it make them fail prematurely?

Spot checks aren't too frequent by me but i can see it being clamped down on as a lot of people complain about them. Older cars will be targeted as well i reckon as it is less likely these conversions will be legal.

Fail prematurely.

They will flash, but they won't look very bright as the bulb doesn't get chance to warm up.

and thats what i have to put up with every night, dickheads with hids that dazzle me. Thats why i am so against them, you cant see anything when they are coming at you and that includes kids or animals stepping out to cross over, or bikes. If there is an accident they will be long gone leaving you with the police trying to explain why you couldnt see the pedestrian in a well lit area.

Well there is a lot of right and wrong here.

HID arnt illegal. It's a massive grey area. 90% of the time you are fine but 90% of the time its not done right.

HID in halogen reflectors - gtfo..does not work even if aligned. Blinds like hell. They can be aimed low but that then defeats the point.
HID in HID reflectors - perfectly fine. Euro r, volvos etc all use them.
HID in halogen projectors - better than reflectors but still glaring.
HID in HID projectors - touch me sexy ways.

Self levelling and washer are compulsery are new cars from 2001 I think. Older cars didn't all have them. If they arnt there you can't fail, if they are there and don't work. You fail.

You can pass mot fine but I think it has to be done properly.
Get some propped hid retrofits and behold popper light output. Plus get bi xenons and flash people instantly when lights are on.

Think the only thing everyone agree's on is HID's in stock lights, are a no go as for attracting attention and blinding on coming traffic

If the lude was still on the road I'd retro fit those Moromoto mini's though and take my chances, 99% of my driving is on unlit country roads, and 4g headlights are shocking at best, look cool though ;)
