Funny you should bring this up actually, I went to my local MOT test station yesterday to enquire about non cat tests, straight away the guy said NO it cannot be legal, then I said to him it IS a grey import that is a 1995 and the chassis code is bb4. He thought about it for a bit then gave in and said IF that code cannot be found on his system then he would perform a non cat test. Let's see how it goes when the MOT is due.

If he actually bothers to check the system, then you'll be fine I think.
I'm sure most testers just make assumptions and would fail it if you don't force the issue.

just don't force the issue if it is a BB1 at my mot last month he did a cat test and she failed, i told him 1992 jdm= no cat and he said that would be fine if mine weren't first registered december 92 had to be pre august.
so while he was testing other stuff i took the egr off quick and cleaned it through and he re-did and she scrapped through :)

MOT Update: It FAILED!!

I don't have the paperwork because it's booked in to have the work done and a re-test.
It failed on something to do with a dust cover on the suspension ball joint thingy. One of the new checks! :x

No mention of the emissions, so I guess it passed on that. :P

I'm actually quite shocked. I haven't had an MOT failure for many years.
