UPDATE & CONCLUSION
Just to recap, I have two Playstation 3 controllers that are fake and the batteries wouldn't last a whole evening.
I bought a couple of cheap batteries from China (eBay), and soldered them in.
Original unbranded battery

New cheap Chinese battery soldered in

I know it's taken me ages for the results. This is because I don't really play as often as I would like.
Conclusion
The new batteries are just as bad as the old ones. They will last for a couple of hours, but will fail before the evening is done.

My advice is to be certain the controller you are buying is genuine Sony. The fakes are very convincing, and there seems to be loads of them on eBay.
If your battery is failing, buy a new, genuine Sony controller, or if you can find one, a genuine Sony battery!

I need another pad, but shoppping on ebay for one is really difficult
even some of the genuine ones you just cant be sure, especially if they are coming from hong kong/china

Turns out my charging problem was the lead! For some strange reason.
A friend of mine brought his controllers and lead round, and as his lead is longer (oo-er) we used that to charge the controllers. My controller now works properly so I assume my lead wasn't charging it.

i'd agree, there are some things i just won't buy off ebay as you can't guarantee they aren't fakes, ebay has pretty relaxed controls over that as i'm sure a large chunk of their revenue comes in from the sale of fakes!Pushki wrote:I would avoid eBay if you're after a new controller. Buy it from the High street.
One of mine came in official-looking Sony packaging. I was convinced it was real until I took the controller apart.
any batteries, like phone batteries etc i would avoid, laptop chargers, aftershave, and if i was ever in the market, womens shoes and handbags...
