Servicing brakes after 5 years in a garage. Wish me luck.

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Wood and trees yes I remember!
I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Can't kick any more with elbow crutches but as of today I still have a pulse. How are you doing and do you still have "Fletch" if I remember the name correctly?

Yes mate, coming up on two years resident now. :D best move we ever made. All good here.
Elbow crutches are definate kickers buddy. Or arm flails rather.

So i utilised duos little tip and it worked. Dust boot in place. I just need to fill the caliper and bleed it. :D :D :D amazing.

Rears are all good. Accord type r fronts not so good. Seized, cant get the pistons out :( they will either have to be sent off for full refurb at a company i know or ill have to buy a second hand set. Damn you 5year garage storage......

They can be a pain to get out.
To get mine out I had a screwdriver with no bit on and put it down through the banjo bolt hole against the piston (I was replacing the piston anyway). Then I just hammered it out, not heavy blows otherwise apparently it can damage the bore.

If not, bike pump (even better a compressor if you have one) and a tire valve can apply enough pressure to force the piston out.

Best of luck either way, I've recently had a marathon with brakes myself :P

Atr calipers have two pistons :( neither line up with the hole.

Im gonna try the compressor tomorrow but im not hopeful at the moment. There is quite a bit of rust i can see if i scooch the dust boot across.

The other way to get them moving is with the caliper still attached to the brake line and fluid in the system. Then you press the brake pedal a few times with a block of wood wedged in the caliper so you don't lose them and a load of fluid!

Once they are far enough out pliers ir grips but it will probabaly still require new pistons (brakes international).

I'm sure you know but if you can get a seal and the compressor method to work don't let it blast one piston all the way out before the other has started moving.

Ah I see, give it a try it can't hurt. You might be pleasantly surprised, mine looked pretty bad as well but were fine. Then again mine were sat for 6 months not 5 years ;)

Craig, I hadn't ever thought of doing it like that, will remember that for next time I need to sort pistons out :)
