I'm only guessing but could the fault lie between the equalizer and the caliper? (Idon't actually know what there is between the equalizer and the caliper tho)

In that case, if the mech is fine, it's likely the lever system inside the caliper itself :( On a plus note, the rear calipers on all 4th and 5th gen ludes are identical. So your options for spares are huge.

nothing really between the two. i am wondering if thwe mechanism has worn inside the calliper? i think maybe the mechanism is going the full distance but not enough bite. does anyone know what is inside?

Just a set of levers I think, but you need to take the piston out to get at them.

there is a small amount of sideways movement in the mech shaft, hardly noticable, could this be the problem - worn innerds? calipers arnt cheap on ebay :evil: and there is no garantee i wont endup with the same problem

I'd get one on here from a breaker man. That way you can ask if it's working before you get your mitts on it.

Yep, rear calipers are all the same for 4th and 5th gens - regardless of 4ws/2ws or 2.0/2.2/2.3 etc
