^^ It's swings and roundabouts. I ran a cheap diesel as well as my Ludes over the previous 3 years. I would say that my cheap diesel car paid for itself in fuel savings alone over the first year. True I did nothing to my beater, I mean nothing , probably why it fell to bits in the end.

It would only be my one car on the road.
Diesel for work
prelude for track
The anamil is tucked up sleeping to come back out some day lol.

This!! ^^^

I was doing 60 miles a day in my Prelude, swapping to the Xsara saved a small amount of money monthly, but more importantly meant my Prelude wasn't racking up the miles. Who cares if a Citreon dies of abuse and high mileage at the end of the day

It isn't an issue if its going to be his only car. The yearly insurance for my beater equalled two tanks of fuel for the Lude :D

Yeah I know :) but just in case anyone else was considering running 2 cars to save money :) insurance, fuel and MOT factored in monthly made me a saving of £120 a month, the car soon paid itself off and now I'm into 'profit'

vw, audi or seat 1.9 tdi 8 valve before 55 cant go wrong.

i wouldnt bother with anything else.
maybe pug 306 td

or another french pile of shitron picasole quite reliable actually...

but the 1.9 is best bet. good for mpg, power and reliability.

As said before. Anything vag. The 90 tdi can only be mapped to 115 but as said the 110 can be mapped to around 140. My friend has a Leon 110, remapped. It's pretty good.
You get a lot of money for your car too, much, much better than any French crap for the same money. I bought my mum a 90tdi A4 650 miles to a tank. :)
