I really think a 328 coupe with a welded diff for 750£ will be the way to go for starters.

Even a 325 will be fine for learning, we use 325's with a 318 welded diff

Not unless it's has all it's traction control removed, 2001 engine is still a E46 isn't it? It has the bad aids, and TCS can't be fully turned off

Nope, one of the guys that drifts with us bought a E46 330 and even with it all disconnected the ECU was still limiting the car. I don't know if he's managed to work round it, he was talking about having to get a custom ECU and remap, which his son's car has (S13 200sx with BMW 4.4 V8) but that's about £1k by the time you've had it mapped

 ouch, not worth it when you can get lighter and just as grunty with the E36 and M52.

It seems the guys over on driftworks feel that this guy was well within his rights to put the price up twice after a no sale. I feel they might be deluded as well. I think I have found a place to gently troll at last. It really brings it home to you how lucky we are to have a 'nice' community here and not a pissing contest as it seems to be over there.

It seems to me most forums that cater for more than one manufacturer are like that, god forbid you own anything that isn't RWD or boosted

@merc: i have averted a couple and ignored a couple but the stench of body lemonade is strong regardless :o

@gorgon: yes mate i seriously agree. its like the differences in car manufacturer travel over into attitude and make people all tetchy. I think they got pissed off i said a beemer was not worth what the guy was asking.... basic mistake i suppose

im just trolling them now.

classic, after all that fun on DW the seller of the bimmer has sent me a message reopening the sale with 500£ off the ticket. i have said not a penny over 850.

If i buy it i will quite enjoy a quiet little victory there. I can see I have been spoilt with this forum and all its kookie inhabitants. :P at least we all understand that our 10year+ cars are worthless regardless of modifications
