^ +1. I never looked back. But good ones are expensive, and unlike TV's there is a HUGE difference in the qualities available.

But if you just want a cheap TV, have a look on ebay for local plasma/lcd's you can pick up. I was shocked when my Hitachi 42PD7500 that I paid £1.3K for about 6 years ago were selling for about £100 in mint condition. It's not full HD (1024 x 1024 I think), but if you sit 3 metres away your eyes can't tell the difference!

I've had my projector for a good few years now and its awesome! Can't beat it for gaming and films. Mines only a 720 but still really good, definitely want to upgrade to a 1080 one though :) It was supposed to be over 1k but because it was a display model and they hadn't sold any it was reduced to £400 then i got a 100" motorized glass bead screen and linked it to my stereo 8-)

Projector isn't really the way to go on a budget though, have you tried cash converters etc?

O also if your old telly isn't too bad, you might be able to fix it. They're modular inside like a PC, everything just connects together. Most usual fault is with the SMPS power supply board. They're an easy swap and you can usually find people stripping them on ebay etc.

I built my first plasma out of a dodgy japanese import that didn't work in this country so someone sold it to me for peanuts, and another one I picked up that had been dropped and smashed :)

There's a new 5D system coming out soon, they say it's much better than crappy 1080p.

Full on 3D, with no glasses and you can pick any screen size - all for pretty much the same price.

The definition is almost infinite, it looks so real it makes you feel like you're really there !!!

There's an Argos clearance store in Corby (50 miles from you). There's dozens of returned TVs with warranty etc for sale there at knock-down prices. They won't compare with Ebay/2nd hand ones for obvious reasons, but 40inch+ stuff usually has 20-40% knocked off the price. You just have to tolerate the selotaped packaging etc. Let me know if there's a particular spec or size you're looking at and i'll swing by for a quick nosey. Its >1 miles from my office and I pop in occasionally.
