
You could try pearl barley as an alternative, but durum is better across the board nutrition-wise. Very high in manganese and selenium though so don't over do it, although they are both very good for the body. If your breath gets garlic-y and your hair/nails start disintegrating, too much selenium. Manganese supplants iron so you start to get anaemic, also tremors occur. You'd probably have to eat a shitload to start seeing these symptoms though
