Why do we work 5 days a week?

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Not really, it's applying efficient methodology to the way you work in order to make it easy for yourself to complete the same amount of work, not necessarily to achieve more in total.

A crude example:

You're given a large pile of small stones and a selection of buckets, and can only carry X kg at once. You may be tempted to find the largest bucket you can carry, fill it to the max kg and move the stones in that way - that's working hard but you can probably appear move more stones at a time and appear to work faster. Alternatively, you could find two equally sized buckets and distribute the max kg between them (even if the buckets don't become full) and move the stones in that way - that's working smart because per trip you're moving the same amount of stones but in a much more sensible way.

This is what I suspect LLL is getting at when he says "work smarter, not harder".

Exactly, and being self employed thats how I work. Smart, not hard. Efficient methodology- Thats the ticket.

I think shiny has manager bitterness   for fair reason I'm sure!

Work smart not hard should be a personal mantra, not a spoken instruction.

I've had to deal with idiot management that fooked up a company following a buy out, caused stupid amounts of extra work, unpaid overtime etc and, when they called down to see how it was going, the response their mess was "work smarter, not harder".

6 months later all our systems and processes were changed back to how they used to be when they realised that they didn;t have a clue what they were doing, creating yet more work.

It is corporate bullshit and has no place in the working world.

I am now self employed and have an employee. If she is stressed out with work, i help out and solve the problem. If i said "work smarter...", she'd thump me, and i'd support that!

We have an ancronym free office, we help each other out and have no bullshitting managers breathing down our necks with fancy corporate sayings that come out of christmas cracker or fortune cookie.

If anything, my motto "is work to be comfortable"

Personally I'm not doing a 5 day week at the moment or any day week as I'm off sick......

Sick of work, working for knobheads and idiots who don't give a stuff about you as long as your there and working your a**s off for them, but when you have a need to be off the first thing they do is sack you or give you s**t for being off.

Enough is enough, I wanted to retire by the time I was 50 well that never happened, due to life getting complicated, soon I'll be 54 and I'm doing it, just doing what I want when I want to.

When I'm better after this op on my hand in the next couple of months I'm selling up, downsizing to a cheaper area and living the dream and if I have to work for pennies to kept me in beer and car parts then I'm doing a 3 day week or stacking shelves in some super store..... stuff working like a slave for some ungrateful a**s....

Sorry rant over :?

Well I tried that, I've also used reverse psychology on managers to get what I want in the past, but its the same old B/S at the end of the day, so I'm going to be "not working" smarter... 8-)
