My old Astra had a cracked air box so I replaced it with an eBay special I got for £5......car ran awesomely for a whole 2min then stalled and flashed warning lights at me.

Turns out the inside of the filter had started to come apart and was now somewhere deep in the engine.

Can laugh about it now but back then it was like a disaster. I was on the phone to Mahle and everything

Another would be buying Type-S cams off ebay. When I took my old cams out that were standard H22A2, they measured up exactly the same! B**tards. Got my money back in the end tho :)

Not treating rusty engine bay bolts before trying to remove them, which resulted in them stapping off
