Yup, makes you sick doesn't it!

My Mrs was lucky enough to get us tickets to the Olympic archery at Lords, was really good watching it live, and gave you hope since they didn't always get it right either?!! Had some yank doing the commentary though :? .....and he clearly didn't know one end of an arrow from the other...

I can ride and I can very amateurly shoot a bow, but combining the two? That vid was impressive. Sans saddle ting as well.

Hey no worries, I hope you get the bug 8-)

On the subject of gloves - main reason on the bow hand is that it acts as an arm brace - the string will quite often hit the inside of your arm, especially when you start out. and it will hurt. and it will bruise up like a mofo
Either use a glove or just a leather arm brace on that arm, try shooting with a finger tab and a glove on the string hand and see what suits, quite often a glove can be a bit restrictive to the 'feel', but it's all personal choice 8-)

Yeah, that second one is a great start, a simple piece of leather. Will work on whatever bow you want to try too, in fact mine is basically a techie version of the same thing.
Archery can be surprisingly simple, or very gadgety if you like that sort of thing, but thats more your compound bows etc.
I like recurve because its a great combo of advanced materials, but there's still a guy doing all of the work, and importantly holding all the bow power on the fingers. Compound just feels like cheating to me, but they are exceptional at what they were designed to do.
I know the temptation is to spend on bits! but I'd say start as simple as poss, you may well find you dont need a lot else, particularly if you end up shooting longbow or barebow anyway.

its bearback you gotta watch out for :o

i think ill get the tab then. a left glove and an arm guard. the missis has 12x 27'' arrows so ill start off with those and see how it goes.

agree with you on compound bows. perfect for the job at hand but with less finesse. I have always liked archery so we shall see.

agree with starting small as well. i liked the starter set i got the missis. I could have got a starter take down for 100? on ebay? (ronny sunshines probably) but this for 6 covers the trad style we are going for with the mustangs.
