Folks you help me more than you know. I don't want to let myself down or my family. BUT you are willing me on as well so I don't want to disappoint you either. I pride myself on being honest and straight and I could just say yes everything is fine and start drinking again you would not know but I would have to face my sternest critic when I look in the mirror in the morning. Before anyone else says it "Christ thats enough to turn anyone to drink!"

Thank you all

Paul

Phil thats the nicest thing you have ever said to me. It shows I must be winning your love at last! PS how is your erectile dysfunction these days? Did sniffing nitins dirty skidders help you at all or did the pills from the vet I sent you work? I am sorry about the mix up it should have said suppositories on the box

Paul I have a drink most nights as do a fair few of us on here who are not in constant pain like you. Only you truly know if you have a problem or not but if you can give it up just like that then I dont think you do. If it numbs the pain and your not falling over and generally making an ass of yourself surely it has to be better than being in pain.
anyway thats my 2p worth. Give cannabis a go as a substitute its supposed to be a good muscular pain reliever and is available from most local pubs and clubs these days. If you dont smoke then get the mrs to bake you some cakes with it ;)

If you feel the need to replace this addiction by another, you should try sport. I've been in this case while I was at my best while practicing Judo. I've had schools and family problems at the same time that makes me starts smoking and drinking. Not a lot but in a dumb way, I mean being always drunk in class when you're 16 years old is not a good thing for the future.
Feeling that you have a great control of your mind to make what you want of your body is very addictive, and seeing some progression in that "control power" is even more addictive. For me, it has result in a national champion tittle+best technician of the competition tittle. It has worked for me, so if it can gives you an idea... I think it's better than cannabis.

you can become dependent on cannabis... trust me lol

while I feel its better than being addicted to alcohol, and not physically addictive

you can still get dependent on it, to take the edge off the day etc..

I would try to replace it with something positive like darkam above says

cannabis can get expensive too depending how much you smoke, and if you have trustworthy dealer

glad to hear your taking some steps paul and acknowledge the problem.. ;)

Darkam is right, I think Paul should take up Judo.

Or maybe lawn bowls, perhaps knitting a patchwork quilt, or possibly getting a greenhouse. A greenhouse is good, not only can you grow tomatoes in it, but it doubles up as a great place to anally rape men in true "Scum" style....
