Good point. I love horses which makes it seem weird. But then who wouldn't love a spring lamb but also love a lamb roast. Funny old world!

people pretty much worship horses and dogs in this country, thousands go to weekend race and gymkhana meetings probably more than go to car shows. The horse is a much loved animal a "noble beast" this mentality has never changed in this country in france they eat it at equine restaurants but only really because historically they have been starved into eating pretty much everything  so once done voluntarily its hard not to see it as a source of food we the british have never been forced into eating these things at home.

As I said before though, cats, dogs, horses and small furry things are all part of the pet culture. Whilst lambs are still cute they soon turn into sheep. Ask anyone where they find sheep. "On a farm!", not your back garden.

We already have a good system in place for naming our meats. Mostly the French animal name isn't it?

Boeuf, beef.
Mouton, mutton.
Porc, pork.
