Potentailly very dangerous! Vtecmec said he didnt notice anything because he pootles. Given enough cornering force the load overcomes the springs holding the wheels pointing forewards. The car can then crab with bad consequences.preludebaz1977 wrote:ah right so if it fails its not actually a dangerous thing then
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

It's a relatively simple system and if something does go wrong, the car is still driveable and not all too difficult to sort out, particularly with the knowledge shared on here.

The bottom pulley is mainly down to some garages not RTFM! when they do a cam-belt change, even when you print out the page and give it to them....
It has to be very tight, and they do it with an airgun....like everything else. Eventually it works loose.
Edited to say: I've had my car 10 years (as I seem to harp on about) and I've called the AA out 3 times:
TWO were for the crank pulley....
One genuine breakdown and it was just the ignitor, think it ws about 20 quid and 10 minutes to fix.
Dont worry about the reliability, they are great. Just get a well looked after example if you can and you're half way there

This ^. Only problems I've ever had were the crank pulley! The radiator sprung a leak but I knew it was getting on and should have replaced it before that. Anything else is due to me messing about. Just keep the car maintained and they're great.bennyboy wrote:Dont worry about the reliability, they are great. Just get a well looked after example if you can and you're half way there
