Fair point but its still a huge beast of an engine that could be a lot smaller and a lot lighter for the numbers.

Im looking for something i can not care about. the compact e36 is an ugly beast so fits the bill  an old 80's one would get trashed too fast.

 now that just left the 'sleeper' catagory behind

I have been researching and it turns out you cant get a budget option for LSD in the compact (maybe an E30 but they are getting hard to find?) and I'm not sure about running a welder all the time so a 328 coupe is looking more like a winner.

i am liking this but for the colour and if it was a few months on i would be going to get it I imagine

Cheap fun

throw a 50% lock LSD on a 3.92 drive and watch my licence go up in smoke

im going to go test drive a few local to me to see if I like the bimmer feel. then go from there. If I can raise 1500 by march I'll be in a buying mood.

thanks for that breaker link. perfect for the conversion. What, in your experience, is a wedler like to drive with normally? does it get skittish at high speeds? whats the lifetime like on them?

shh dont tell anybody but the 520 from around 91-97 had a 4.27-1 diff which is about the best you can get standard. thats a medium case though and a compact runs a small case but easily changeable.

Whilst I agree, I find most BM's feel a bit soggy to drive in comparison to the lude.
And it isn't my rose tinted lude specs I promise, just my 2p's worth.

They are bit different with a set of coilovers on them, They are motorway rep hacks so OEM things are a bit soft

True enough. I meant more the gear change and steering though, don't you think?
Always found the gear shift particularly disappointing in them. :?
That said, of course LLL will be changing bits out, short shifter etc etc I suppose...

^^^you betchya a*** I will

@tramroad: so I could have a compact but run a diff from another chassis? So I could actually have an LSD in a compact? hmmm, just a question of cash and fabrication I suppose?

That red one is calling to me if only for the level of mod already on it. I need to break soundsystems and FTO's first though

@benny: the car will be for thrashing and trying to go sideways so im just going for the cheapest bang for buck my friend. The one im looking at here already has all the mods I could think of but for a tuned ecu and an LSD. If he would take a grand and a half i would probs take it....

You can get an lsd for the small case thats already in the compact and in some tidy ratios too its just they aren't as strong, mind you it would probably take 200 bhp all day long.
