With Infinity distance from the exchange doesn't matter as all the usual dslam exchange stuff is moved into the new cabinet on the street, and has a fibre connection from the exchange to the cabinet.

What does affect speed is the quality of the old cable/joints from the cabinet to your house which can take a good chunk off your final speed.

Infinity FTTP is hardly anywhere yet but thats has been tested up to 330 meg (think its currently sold as a 160meg service)

Ping is how long the data packet takes to get from your computer, to the test server and back.

The lower this is the better.
