3rd gen steve wrote:Depends on how new the analyser is as it will have a more up to date data base. My one is only a couple of months old but i cant look up the data base untill i get a car that fails a cat test. All cars 92 onwards must sit a cat test and if they fail then all the various rules and checks can be applied and i will then be able to check the data base. So if any one has a bb4 i can borrow ill let you know how it goes!!
You can borrow my BB4 and put it through the mot test if you like :)

BB4's pre 95 are not on the gas analyser database but as far as i am aware they all came with cats fitted so it purely on a technicality that BB4's get away with this. My old mots show that my BB4 went thru the non-cat test even when there was a cat fitted and that was with a number of different test stations.
Its a bit worrying that visa are clamping down on non cat cars and that they are updating their database accordingly. Fingers crossed is all i can say.
This issue has always been a bit of a grey area lets hope it stays that way :)

I spoke to Steve who clarified how MOT's are done on the brand new equipment.

The MOT machine automates the process, the reg number is entered and the machine pulls up the matching details from the MOT testers database and gas analyser database. All the tester does is put the sensor in the exhaust. If the car fails the emissions test the MOT tester has the option to go into the database and select the the correct model (if it is there) or specify the correct emissions test to perform.

Steve also confirmed that the BB4 is not in the gas analyser database, only UK chassis types.

So pre 95 BB4's are still legally able to be put through a non-CAT MOT.

Man sex? The BB6 is the same as it ever was, requiring a CAT test as all post 1995 cars do.

My car is on 94 M plate but date of registration on my V5 is 01/03/2000 ...so where do I stand with that?!
Incidentally it is listed as a Prelude 2.0l with 2157cc engine and a BB4 chassis code. Weird.

yeah some of the import companies didnt take too much care when registering the ludes with dvla - my BB4 is listed as a four door saloon
I would go and correct that with DVLA - you will need to update them of the corrections to your V5 ;)

Thats good news on the BB4s ive been saying it for years now - its the one to own :D

Just spoke to my MOT tester as i do bodywork for him.
Hes said a BB6 wont need a cat test. If its decat it will just go on emissions or see if there is a UK version which we checked and was only bb8. So as long as the emissions are below 3.4??? it will pass with a decat.

Epically confused. No one in this thread runs on gas. Unless your american and assume gas is petrol.
