When I was in the Army back in the 70's I visited Auschwitz, and in the 90's I visited Ravensbruck and Belsen. I still not comprehend the bloody awful things done in the name of the Third Reich and there take on ethnic cleansing.
ISIS seem to have similar ideas and I hope they are wiped out before many others die.
Sorry Sailor I have brought you very interesting thread and pictures down with this post.

I have kleptomania,
But when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Day 17 (part 2)
Eisensach to Nieukerk [2830M so far]
The Wartburg also gave its name to a make of car, of course.
Eisenach had played a part in automobile history since the end of the 19th century. BMW moved in when it took over Dixi in 1928 and made Austin 7s under licence. A small museum in the town tells the story. It has one of my favourite cars of all time:-

More of the BMW story is also represented.

BMW became EMW after the war.

(Pity I couldn't get the car and poster to line up better!)
Naturally, there are Wartburgs there, too.

Today, the town is still heavily involved in the motor industry. Opel has a very sophisticated body plant there.

We pottered across the country, going to our homeland. Germany has a fabulous range of great places. As in Bad Arolsen, it can even out-chateau the French.

Re: New Road Trip thread ...
Days 18 to 20
Nieukerk to Home [3221M total]
We had a few domestic chores to do, including taking my mother-in-law's Yaris to have a check-up. The lads at the Toyota dealer are keen on some things. They've got two of these, both track-day prepped:-

The village where we both come from is a typical Rhineland mix of commuting and farming. Small industrial estates have pockets of land used for other stuff:-

In direct contrast to the mountains stuff we both like so much, this is a typical local view.

I was born right across the street from the church you can just see on the horizon. There was no blue plaque when I last looked.
