MOT Emissions - 1994 BB4 with De-cat

Post by Pushki » Fri Feb 24, 2012 3:08 pm

My Mot is due on the 10th March and it will be the first one since fitting a de-cat.
I went down to my local Honda dealer today and asked to speak to their MOT tester.

I told him what car I had and that it had a de-cat. I asked whether they would perform a non Cat test.
He said NO! Only cars registered before 1992 can have a non CAT test and de-cats are not legal.
This is when I produced the flowchart. http://www.motuk.co.uk/images/7.3page9.pdf

He went away and came back a few minutes later wanting to know my chassis number.

He went away again...... :sega:

Eventually he came back and said "you're right, it can have a non CAT test." Woohoo!! :P
So, it's booked in on the 7th March. I told the receptionist to make a note that it's a non CAT test.
We'll see what happens on the day. Image

It'll only be a win if they do the right thing on the day. :scaredtoss:

I'm sure they will, surprised you went to the dealer for an MOT though. How much do they charge for the privilege (assuming you don't mind me asking) ?

I've always taken it to my local dealer. I usually buy some consumables while I'm there, such as oil filters etc.
It will cost me in the region of £54, which I think is the going rate anyway. :)

I've always had a problem convincing general MOT places that my car doesn't need a cat test, so I took it last year to a proper sports car garage, didn't even quibble when I said it needed a non cat test, and tested it while I waited.

It's about 40mins from me but worth the drive to actually have decent people MOT it
