Custom tailpipe size pros & cons

I'm getting a custom stainless steel exhaust from the cat back courtesy of Solid Fabrications. The standard pipe diameter is 2.25" and I'm told that going up to 2.5" is perfectly OK so that's the plan. I've asked for it to be of the same noise level as standard but don't mind it a tiny bit louder. Also, it needs to be of at least the same performance level as standard, no more restrictive.

What are peoples opinion on the tail pipes sizes? I want twin tail pipes, like what I've got now. I think the style is described as having a rolled inner lip? Here's my current standard exhaust tail pipes:

The eagle eyed amongst you may notice that they actually stick out about an extra inch compared to standard, that's because I've inserted an extra bit of pipe in there of the same diameter as the exhaust pipe to extend them. So they're a little longer but otherwise the same.

The outside diameter of the shiny bit is 3". The diameter of the inner pipe is 2". I would like the shiny bit to go all the way back to the rear silencer box with no gap, so doesn't look like a bolted on after thought.

If I go for 2x 3" pipes from rear silencer box to tip, they would be 1" larger than standard. Is there any disadvantage to this? Would this be detrimental to performance? Would this be too noisy or could that be compensated for with the silencers?

Another option is 2x 3" pipes from rear silencer box to tip, but with a narrower pipes inside, like the standard setup, but maybe with 2x 2.5" pipes inside instead?

Larger tail pipes will make negligable difference to noise (all the silencing has already happened) and it certainly won't be detrimental to performance. In general the less restrictive the exhaust is, the better (though that's not necessarily true for torque).

If you want it to look OEM then get these

Alan/SolidFab did this on a 5G Prelude (H22A5) couple of years ago and tagged me in the picture (FB) to let me see how it would look. I think it was 2.5" exhaust all the way through so it did have some performance plus it looks completely OEM..

Wha you really need is a par of convergent nozzles on the end of each exhaust tip!

Honestly I think you are thinking a little to much about this, the performance differences on a standardish engine will be negligible although going 2.5 inch will help with an increase. Much of the restrictiveness is from the cat, silencer boxes ad bends. Alan will probably be the man to ask. The tail pipes will have little beari g on performance, go for what you like ;)

@Nitin_s1, that photo is of @Howzit37's own car. Howzit37 hasn't got any photos so do you have any more? I quite like the look of it.

Yes it is Howisthat37's car..

Alan/SolidFab only sent me one photo so that's the one I have. I'll look through his page if I find any more pictures. 8-)

I've had a look through the Solid Fabrications Facebook page and can't see any more, besides it shows them as joining Facebook in December 2012 (from memory), which was after that exhaust was made.

I have Alan as my friend on FB from long time ago so that's where I was tagged, ;)

Ah, so you're special friends who send each other photos of your pipes, yes?

My brother had his exhaust done by alan at solid fabrications. Excellent welding quality
I do like the standard exhaust on the prelude but Howisthat37's exhaust does look good.
