Intercooler Cleaning

Post by Duo » Wed Feb 29, 2012 1:16 pm

Hey guys, I'm bored lately so while the stag is undergoing waiting for parts what would you guys recommend for cleaning out the stock wing mount intercooler, will probably be completely removing it from the car and wanting to clean outside and inside to restore some of the lost performance due to build up of bugs, oil, tar etc, has to be aluminium friendly (methylene chloride as you'd find in Nitro Mors reacts with ally to make phosgene, not goof, very very poisonous lethal horrid stuff, so thats a no go hehe) need it to shift everything it can really, acetone maybe? IPA is alright but a bit soft for getting some crud out, toluene might work, WD-40 perhaps? Petrol? Kerosene? Mixture of the above?

Let me know what you guys think :)

Also if any of you have experience with the Blitz R-FIT I have a question about the pre loaded defaults and an RB25-DET Neo6

Surfex might be a good shout Shiny, was thinking about those one too Josef, maybe use the solvents followed by a strong washing up liquid mix, it is a heavy duty degreaser after all, hmmmm, any thoughts on nitrometh glow plug fuel? might be hard core enough?

LLL know anywhere that sells pure KOH (potassium hydroxide) used to use it to clean the sinks and some of the kit when I worked in an adhesives plant, didn't half make metal shine and was plastic friendly, also won't evaporate if I leave it in the intercooler lol

That's really cool (hah!)
