well you can see it in two ways,
16" looks good and allows you to lower car more than 17" also is lighter steering and faster than the 17s
17" looks great fits wheel arch perfectly and from first glance gives you the appearance of a lowered car, steering is ever so slightly heavier but is nothing to be put off by and of course if you were intending to make it a go fast car stick with 16s as 17s will just slow the car down.
personally I prefer 17s as they look badass and open up space to show off brake callipers etc. plus saves a bit in having to lower it too although you still can with seventeens.

Depends on weight and strength. 17" will have more inertia than 16 since the main weight sits further out. But some 17 can be lighter.
At the end of the day it all comes down to tyre size and compound. You will want to keep as close to the stock 4" sidewall as possible for optimum handling.

they are good tyres , why are people against 17in on a 5th gen ? if I put 15in on I have to lower it , so 17in does the job without lowering

Suppose it's just preference and 16s give less hassle when modding. I'm sticking to 17s I like them.

No one is against 17....that was never mentioned. Wheel size won't matter. It's the tyre wall profile. Minimum I would use is 215/45/17. A 205/55/15 is roughly the same size so being lower won't matter.
16s wont give less hassle. Offset and width will.

I have ATR wheels on the 5th Gen. I think they look much nicer than the original 16 inch sawblades and fit the arches perfectly on a 30-40mm lowered car. They certainly look nicer when the car's at factory height.
