Ok when swapping an engine your meant to notify the dvla, does everyone? Does it matter if your swapping like for like?

Not compulsory, if it's like for like I wouldn't bother. I swapped an H22 into mine, which started with an H23. I need to notify the DVLA as it causes me an insurance dance every year!

The codes being right might help when you sell the car maybe? I know I've never checked them

No me neither, but I'll probably never sell it.

I would imagine the official line is that yes, you do need to notify the DVLA.
I would think the insurance might kick up a fuss too if they find a different engine than its original, regardless of it being like for like.

Yes, notify them.

Just write the new engine number in the right box on the V5 and send it off to them, they'll send you back with an updated V5 (just the engine number changed). No big deal at all...

I had my new V5 come through yesterday and I noticed it had the new H22a7 engine code on it, which I thought was a good thing. It'd only give the insurance company ammo not to pay out if they wanted to get nasty if the worst ever happened.
