Looking at buying a 2000 Prelude. Any advice?

After the failure of my Delsol on MOT day I have decided to strip it and scrap it. I have been looking to get a new car and have looked and civics, another delsol, then a prelude caught my eye

the car that caught me eye is a 2000 w reg 2.0i prelude. It only has 80,000 miles on the clock.

Is there anything i should be aware of with prelude of this age?

Are they prone to rust in certain areas? ie like the EK civics and the DELSOL in the rear arch bottoms along the sills

are they belt driven motors or chain driven? if belt should be changed at 60k?

thanks in advance for the advice

Hello, welcome to LG!!!

Unless you really want the 2.0L, my sugestion is don't buy it. Get a 2.2 VTEC instead. Running costs and insurance are reportedly only sightly more. MPG is similar as well.

^this! There's not much difference in running costs between a 2.0 and 2.2 vtec, also go for a manual not an auto.

Preludes are pretty solid, the most common issues are:

5th gear crunch
Rust spots on rear arches, around sunroofs, around windscreen.

There's plenty of good examples around.

Main thing with any Prelude is research what lights should come on and then go off when you turn the ignition on. As it's common just to remove the dash bulb than actually fix the fault it's hiding.

Welcome to LG! :Hello:

My opinion is that you should fix the DelSol. They're getting almost as rare as the Prelude and they are nicer looking than the 5th gen'.........at least from the front.

But yes if you enjoy driving then save yourself the time and get a nice 2.2VTI. You will not regret it. If you can find a nice low millage one with a Montegi kit then even better!

They are belt driven.

Get a manual 2.2 (H22A8)
