looking for budget laptop. help?

Post by lewd lude lover » Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:50 pm

so im looking for a beater laptop. it needs to be solid and it needs to be able to last 4-5 years and it needs to be less than 300 squids.

i am looking at the toshiba c50a. probs with either the caleron n2815 dual core or the i3 core or the AMD APU quad.
Which would you advise?

like this

AMD CHIP

or this

top whack

ideally im looking for spending much less than 300 notes.

my questions are this.

do i need either chip for my usage? (internet, bit of documents and maybe some video editing, media stuff etc) or am i best to pay less and get a lower chip like THIS with just a celeron 1005m?

reconditioned/box damage is great in my book and it dosn't need to be totally new.

are there any other laptops that have all the bits and bobs of this one for less? I had a toshiba last and it lasted ten years so im happy with the brand and the C50 seems a decent budget option?

or should I just get a dual core duo latitude d630 and tramp it?

i like bargains so hit me with your best recon sellers and your best knowledge.

cheers.

You probably don't need a quick processor if you're not gaming or doing anything too resource hungry, but to be honest I wouldn't recommend anything less than the i3 if you want it to last a few years. I am an fan of AMD but the intel chip will out perform the AMD A6.

Go ex-corporate refurbs man, decent quality kit for peanuts:

Running one of these myself - amazing bit of kit for the cash, was close to 2k new I believe. Spares are also cheap, easy to find, and easy to fit. Full dis-assembly guide (think workshop manual) available on the Lenovo site. Can't recommend it enough!

ya but the prices are damn high. the seller with the AMD chip and a scratch or two soild his last one for 216£ and that was a monster amd A6 chip. they are asking 240 for a 1 gig tiddler. priced themselves out of my market im afraid.

do you have any comparisons in your own experience? Im happy to find the deal im after in time but its experience or opinion based on experience im after.

thanks indigo, thats exactly what i was after.

I set up my last company on tier1online computers and my last toshiba was from them so you just gave advice i can really get into. mucho reppage :D :D :D :D :D

That's a cracking price! The i5 processor can deffo handle games, it's a quad core job - it's the onboard graphics that would let it down. As long as you weren't expecting to much I think you'd get away with it on medium settings.
