Help me find a rock club in South England

Right,
I'm organising a stag do on November 22nd.
I have the day time activity sorted, but need to find a rock nightclub or decent bar or whatever, for the evening entertainment.
It needs to be somewhere in the area bounded by the M3/South Coast/M23A23 area and there would need to be cheapy hotels somewhere nearby (travelodge/premier inn type place)
Rock clubs aren't my thing so although I know that area a bit, I haven't got a clue!
Help?

My lad's the DJ at O'Neill's in Winchester. There should be a band that night, too.
Chuck-out time is 2-ish.

I've had a night out at O'Neill's in Winchester before as it happens and it was very messy and good fun

That was a good few years ago though...
What band would it be? Old foggie rock doing Quo covers, or a band doing youngish covers, or a band doing 'never heard before but we love Radiohead slash your wrist meloncholy rock' type stuff? (or none of the above

)

my recollection is there's no cheap hotels in Winchester though, because if you live there, you're loaded... I'll have to check if that's still the case though.
Well hurrah - one suggestion at least! Thanks Sailor.
Anyone else?!

The bands usually do covers from a range of eras. I don't think the proprietress likes to gamble on original stuff.
Jan's sets are also varied - he plays whatever gets people dancing as long as they still find time to stop occasionally and buy some beers.
I think there's a basic hotel at the M3 service station just north of the city and a Premier Inn 15-20 minutes walk from the centre.

Not forgetting the Eastleigh / Southampton area for cheaper Hotels than Winchester
