tonite I got home from work sat down and was just having a drink when there was banging at the door Helen went to answer as I had a lap full of kittens.
At the door was a neighbour histerical screaming her husband had had a heart attack and she couldn't get him off the couch.
I know Derek he is a nice guy not too old only 50 so I raced past her and into her house with Helen dragging Dereks partner with her I checked his wrist and his neck no pulse he was breathing.
I dragged him off the couch lay him on the floor and started cpr I didn't know 999 were on the phone until I heard Helen talking telling them I had started cpr.
I worked for over 5 minutes before the first paramedic arrived then for another 15-20 until the second arrived the ambulance was another 10 minutes behind them.
Derek didn't make it.......
I started months ago improving my fitness but this is a huge wake up call

Horrible thing to go through, but at least you tried to make the outcome better.

Hats off to your quick endeavours - it gave the guy a chance even though your help sadly didn't prevail. Lost a young and close relative approx 10 years ago - like you say it gives you a right shake and reminds you mortality is short and always on a knife edge. Life can be tough at times :(

At least you had first aid skills and tried your best. Think if you had no idea of what to do except watch him die. Sorry it was the worst outcome. Telle est la vie.

fair play Gary for being a top neighbour, hats off to you for what you did for them and to also realise afterwards that this can affect ourselves and that life is simply too short.
