So I am looking for a switch panel for a few items in the RV. i found this and I like it.

And I love that its all wired in already but can someone tell me how it would work inparactice? I dont quite get car electrics.

So this has a live and a negative wire coming out of it. Great, I get that.

All the items I have have the same two wires, one black one red. great. I get that too.

I can only see one free spade connector for each switch space though...... I am presuming the live... Where does the spare negative go? back to the negative junction box? If so whats the point of all the negative wiring on the switch panel...

Its obviously right I just dont see how i'd wire it.

One common negative, same as on a car (except on a car you use the bodyshell, on a boat/caravan etc you can't because it's plastic, so you do actually run negative wires back to the battery).

The spare terminal on the switches is the 'switched live', this is what you connect up to the live on each of the different bits of kit you want to switch (run a wire back from each of them to each of these switches).

On the negative (black) wires on that switch panel, you can see they're all chained together, but there is one flying lead coming out of the last crimp. The negatives coming off that panel are just for the light inside each of the switches, so you connect that black flying lead back to the negative on the battery (which is where all your other negatives also need to go too) and hey presto the light inside each of the switches will work. If you're not fussed about having the switch light up, then don't bother with that negative flying lead.

So yes to your suggestion for the negatives - run a chunky lead off the negative terminal of the battery to a junction box of some kind, then run all the negative leads from your bits of kit (including this switch panel) to that junction box.

If you look closely on the +ve and -ve bus there is a length of wire spare with the end stripped. The positive would be connected to +12v from your power source, and the negative to earth. The negative is solely for the indicator light it appears. The spare spade terminal is for the +ve feed on whatever electric device you are wiring in. The -ve wire of the device would just go to an earthing point in your electrical system - not sure how it works in your truck but in a car you'd just earth to the body.

Right so I wasn't going mad, just not confident. Run the positives through this and run a neg back to the uction box as you would anything else.
