Hey folks,
Missus has itchy feet again and while there is little wrong with her wee 52 plate Civic Exec she wants to dabble in 4x4's again! We have had a Nissan X-Trail in the past (2.5petrol)but it only lasted 6months before it hit head gasket issues and we got rid.

Max budget is about 2k. Car will do approx 5k a year as a kids school bus/dog transporter.

Thought about CR-V 2nd gen or even 1st, another X-Trail or Toyota RAV4. Has anyone got any experiences with said motors or advise another path?

Cheers!

1st gen CR-Vs are good cars, I much preferred them to the second gen. Not owned myself, but I basically had to look around and decide which one my friend was going to buy. They drive well, and have good visibility. The later models have slightly better bhp output, though they are all decent enough engines. Do make sure you check the underside for rust though, seems to be a problem on the cars that maybe haven't been looked after quite as well as they could have been.

Thanks mate.
Had a gander at a HR-V and a RAV4 today. Think the Honda will be too small for (sometimes) 2 Labs - quite claustrophobic infact! RAV4 was a much better size with a great sized boot and no load lip. Pity the interior is so plasticy and drab!

Neither of them is a real 4x4, though.
Have you considered something like a Legacy or an Octavia estate?

She likes the higher seating a 4x4 has to offer. More digging suggests looking at Nissan's Terrano too. Actually quite like the boxy looks and if i can find a SVE it has the bells and whistles....
Rare tho
