I know the are a few self employed on here, are any of you having issues with logging into your account on the HMRC website?

Apparently my password was wrong so I went through the usual faff to get a new one. Then it decided it still wasn't going to let me log in, so I assumed I had my user ID wrong... got that sent to me again via email.

That's 2 out of 3 log in attempts failed, but now I have both my user ID and my password (correct cos I'd just got them drokking sent to me!). Still no logging in going on.

Says either my user ID or password is wrong, still. Thought I might have cocked up somewhere, so with the password that was sent to me I thought I would double check my ID again as I'd accidentally deleted it from where I'd pasted it (silly, should've written it down)... when requesting to see my ID again it says it cannot locate my account with the details I've supplied... that's a correct password, correct email, UTR and NI numbers.

I know they have one of those security things where if you fail to log in 3 times in a row you're locked out for 2 hours but surely that wouldn't stop me recovering them in that time? Seems kind of stupid to do something like that...

Quite pissed off at the moment  they were just down for a week for maintenance...

The goverment gateways are a bit crappy and not very obvious to the first time user.
No doubt we have paid billions for the production of these non user friendly sites.

I used it last year with no problems, and recovering my details earlier worked fine without any K on my UTR.

It's the self assessment thing I'm trying to get to, it's been almost 2 hours since the balls up so I'll try again in a bit (I'll wait til I find out exactly where this K goes though ) and report back.

I got impatient and thought I'd try it... UTR field only allows 10 characters (the length of the UTR). Thanks anyway though! I guess I'm gonna have to sit on the poxy phone for 3 hours tomorrow night :x

We can leave it open for future public sector website issues and gaffs.
