1998 car first registration in 2007 !?! What does it mean ?!

So I received my log book that specify that the car is made in 1998 but first registration is in 2007 !?!?
What's that suppose to mean !?!
Is not imported .

V5 is a record of registered keeper only.
The only thing identifying actual ownership is a receipt issued at the point of purchase etc. Same as any other goods.
Date of registration difference needn't be a DVLA gentleman's sausage up, it could be because the car wasn't sold/registered for a long time after it was built - you never know...

What if you bought the car from a friend for cash. Does he still need to give you a letter to say he has sold it to you with both their signatures as a proof!?
