ransomware, what the hell, anyone else had one of these, ok its a virus, not satisfied with stealing passwords (this whould mean the crook would have to do at least some work) now they are just simply holding your pc to ransom. so how does it work - its a trojan that hyjacks your desktop with a notice suposably from metropolital police e unit sayin your pc has been locked and you must pay a fine of £100 via a voucher (cant remember the name) for ileagal internet activity, mentioning pornography (including child porn) and violance. this is a ploy to scare you into paying. went onto puk tue eve to respond to a message and hey prestow it got me, now im not accusing puk of this, it prob has lay dormant on my system for a while, but something activated it  took me a while to get rid, once on your desktop you cant do anything else but click on the pay box, it gets into your activex.
the solution, switch off computer, then back on pressing f8 repeatedly till it goes to the safe mode options, select safe mode with comand prompts, it should now start normally but with a c/ box on the screen, type explorer to access your desktop, goto controll panel and into user accounts. set up a new account with limited access. log off and switch to the new account. this now gives you access to the net without the virus (virus is associated with your usual account and as the new account has limited access it wont affect the new account, once online you can now search online for a cure and save to a memory stick, switch off and go back into safe mode on your usual account and load up cure. DONE.
BAS**RDS tried to get me, yes i know i should use anti virus protection, but i dont  slows my computer down, i just reinstall windows every so often :D i think this virus (trojan) came from youtube, cant imagine where else it could be as no one else has access to my laptop and is password protected to keep the kids off it
hope no one else gets this bugger, it was hard to get rid  but i have killed it by using the life line above
think i will keep agv installed for a while

AVG is far too slow. Highly recommend the Windows one http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/wind ... essentials

Doesn't slow my machine down, unobtrusive, and free!

No danger it came from Youtube man, that's a Google run site - they're quite careful about virus checking all their content. Sounds annoying though.

Have to say, running Windows without virus protection is jolly silly, given the basic system architecture Microsoft use. As Jay said, get the free one in there if you run Windows 7, if not - google Avast Antivirus and grab that (it's also free).

Then go stand in the corner and think about what you've done

carefull, its still there. you could just go into the system 32 file, find it and change its privelages, when you roll back, it doesnt delete anything, so it will at some point reapear, but then i supose you know what it is, plus if it does it would be easy to find as it would be a file that was modified on that day :D
