Im trying to determine the internet line speed of the internet coming into the house.

To do the test it says i need to plug in the cable direct to the laptop to run the test. I did this by removing the cable from the back of the wifi router.

However, when i plugged the cable direct into the laptop, it didnt give me access to the net. Can anybody help and tell me what i am doing wrong?

Running windows XP and internet provider is Force 9.

Cheers,

Marc

Leave the router plugged in as usual then plug an ethernet cable from your router to the laptop, then go to speedtest.net or whatever and run a test :-)

Your still running xp? Wow that does surprise me for you Marc :?

If you're running XP, I'd avoid having it connected to the Internet

Yeah man - time for an upgrade for sure
Microsoft on April 8, 2014 officially ended support for XP, meaning it stopped rolling out security updates for the aging OS. At that time, Redmond also stopped letting those on Windows XP download its Security Essentials tool, which guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
