Hey everyone,

I hope you're all well.

I bet you're all better than my car..

The white 'Lude failed it's MOT. Majorly. Both rear arches need replacing (I have these) they say the rust is too near the suspension points.. n/s sill needs replacing (I don't have this) which means ripping off my (ghastly) fibreglass sideskirts. Both front brakes are binding, handbrake isn't working. Nearly all dust covers have perished..

I have been quoted £500 for the welding (at mates rates!) I'm looking at another £200-£300 in various parts. Ideally the rear screen needs removing and replacing because its rusting around the edge of the frame.. then the whole thing will need painting, and I'm sure that won't be the end of it. I reckon I'll be looking at £4-5k to get it back fit and healthy again with a nice new coat of paint. I can't justify that on a car that I'm going to have to be constantly pumping money into.

I'm now contemplating breaking it and buying a JDM DC5 Teg.

It has loads of good parts: Tanabe Limit AX 4 branch manifold, stainless exhaust, Type-S intake with K&N filter, socketed and chipped ECU, leather/alcantra custom black interior out of Project X, some jobby steering wheel, Wings West wide-mouth front bumper. Hiro rear spats, Azect rear light covers, Konig Hurry 2 lightweight wheels with awesome Vredestein tyres. Shocks and springs which look like non-adjustable coilovers - I can't remember the brand but they are great. I have loads of spares including the two rear arch repair panels and at least one spare set of alloys.

..unless anyone has a good 4th gen shell they want to part with? I'll be the one crying in the corner

Thats sad mate, but the Dc5 will put that smile back on your face pretty quick.

Hopefully someone on here will buy it though and get the work done and keep it complete,it's a nice car.

Does beg to question just how much is too much,in small amounts it;s not noticed really but when you hit a whopper like that list

My predicament is, I have nowhere to keep it - if I want the work done to get the car back on the road I have to get it all done at once. I could sell the whole thing I suppose, it still drives fine.. just not legally.

Thanks Nick. I am really upset to see it go.. It would be lovely if it could live on again as a whole car, but then again, there are enough great parts on it to bring a few back to life, I'd hope!

Bad news mate, sometimes it makes sense to bail from our joy machines, Unfortunately....
5k is a lot too spend, when you could put that towards a newer car... Plus the money you get for parts of this....damn that would mean a nice late 5th gen and change for all the mods u want, or u hop ship to the dc5, which is a badasss motor...

I'm actually spending near 3k at least to get my non runner live and kicking...and looking the way I want. But a type s is special to my heart.... And every penny I spend is worth it to me. ( he says nervously....lol )

I don't think I have helped u much.... Sorry....

Hello Adam, may have an answer to your problem, I have a BB1 shell that's in decent condition I have taken the drivers side sill cover off and it's intact still to do the same on the other side but I will get some pics up and you can have a look. the only thing is that you would need a new drivers door and sunroof. the door.
