Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

New car, what to get?

Post by Merlin » Mon May 09, 2016 4:17 pm

I cannot decide on what car to get :( I am not getting rid of my 5th gen, that is staying, but I need a bigger car for day-to-day use as getting the kids in the Prelude is a right pain. I want something that isn't completely boring while not stepping on the Ludes toes. I have a budget of around £7,000. Any ideas?

Things that are floating my boat at the moment are:

Nissan Elgrand 3.5L petrol
Honda StepWagon 2.4 VTEC
Volvo V50 Estate 2.0 TDi (a bit on the boring side but I like the look of them)

How many kids have you got?
I like the S-MX Lowdown.. even though it's not on your list.
The Elgrand is a BEAST.. lovely motor though, comfy as hell and you could live in it if you wanted.
I can't speak for the StepWagon as I've had no experience, but it's Honda, so say no more..
Volvo estates need petrol turbo engines ;)

Two kids, 6 and 1. Both of which need backed seats. Last time I had a child seat in the back of the car long term it deformed the bolsters of the rear seat

I would like a big car for driving holidays, has the potential for towing the race car and use as a support car (ie transporting wheels and bumpers to the track).

You wont go wrong with a good (toyota) japanese 4x4 for utility and fun mate. Nice and high off the ground, greenlaning available on a sunday afternoon and able to tow landrovers out of puddles all year round.
The new toyota d4d engines can be tuned up to 200hp easy and my old surf with the older direct injection engine and a few tweaks will do 18s runs on the drag strip. Nothing like showing up someone in a vectra vrx with a two ton truck.

Its a whole different style to a car. I love having the choice of car or 4b4 on a day. Towing? say no more.... space and beach available? say no more...
Mini vans are ok but dont you think something important might die inside you?
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

I don't think I could own a 4x4. My mum and dad always had a 4x4 and my dad has a Toyota Land Cruiser at the moment. I learned to drive in a series 3 Landy :D.

I know minivans are just a sign of someone who has given up on life so I am trying to find the cooler ones. I loved Farlow's StepWagon when I saw it.

If I didnt have the Lude I would get a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 or something and be done with it.

I love the SM-X, but you shouldn't really be paying over a grand for one.

What about the RB chassis Odyssey? 2.4 Vtec 200bhp.

If you're thinking of a big Japanese bus I've got the granvia for sale still. From memory it's done about 36,000 miles and it's a 3.4l petrol V6 which is nice :) Q-Spec so it's got swivelling seats in the back and more mahogany veneer than you can shake a stick at

You'd have so much change from 7k lol, I would do a very sensible price for a fellow LG'er.

We had the a6, 3.0 tdi Quattro... The boot is mahooosive and loads of space for the kids. Back seats r roomy.
220bhp and 450 torques, sprints to 60 in 7 seconds and sounds awesome doing it. 35mpg avg.
Xenons nav and heated leather. And the Quattro system gives phenomenal handling esp in the rain.
Best 7k u will ever spend.
