Scrap my car and start again with a minter, or carry on?
Scrap my car and start again with a minter, or carry on?
As some of you know I'm converting my Lude to run an ATR H22A7 and U2Q7 LSD box, after the cambelt tensioner failed on the original engine. I'm at the point where it's almost ready for the new engine to go in, engine and box are out, front hubs are off (ready for 5th gen ones to go on) etc. It's far from mint.
I've found a mint 4th gen for sale in need of an engine (think of it as a rolling shell). It's in my favourite 4th gen colour, everything works, it's identical spec wise to mine (UK spec VTEC, 4WS, ABS, Cruise, AC, sunroof, facelift, has the EL rev counter/speedo). Basically my perfect spec and in really nice condition bar the knackered engine and "minor bubbling on one arch" according to the ad.
Pros:
Obviously its a really nice colour and spec, will save me time and money getting the bodywork and a few other minor issues sorted on mine.
Will potentially save a breaker buying it and stripping it as it is really nice and original.
Cons:
I'm quite sentimental about my cars and would be gutted to see mine leave on the back of a scrap lorry.
It may be hiding other issues (it's probably not, but what if) despite looking very very tidy.
It'd be a shame to modify such a mint, 100% original car. Whichever one I end up using will end up getting thrashed round tracks, used as a daily on the salty, dirty winter roads and I won't feel so bad about doing this with mine...
I have 6 cars already, and I'm trying to reduce numbers rather than buying more.
Basically, I just need someone to talk me out of it!
