What transmission fluid do people here in UK use, I've heard gm syncromesh is the best on a 20 year old gearbox but only seem to get from the States, and can't find the old honda stuff anywhere only the new stuff and apparently it's no good for the old hondas, any recommendations of any UK brands that work well??

Torco MTF gets good reviews and is easy to get unlike Amsoil MTF which used to a family favourite but difficult to get a hold of these days :)
