Morning,

So @Drax- has kindly sold me his gearbox which I need fitted.

I have got a quote from a mate who is saying installation will cost me £250-£300 which I think is a bit steep?

Does anyone know of, or has got a gearbox and clutch fitted around Birmingham?

If so how long ago was it done and how much was the cost?

If anyone on the forum is capable of fitting it as well please let me know and PM me a price.

Thanks guys

Ranj

Are you having it converted from auto to manual? Bit steep for mates rates if its just a manual to manual swap would expect to pay that from a normal garage (not a friend)

for a garage to do the work, its the equivalent of having your clutch changed (as they'd need to take the box off to do this) - so thats your ball-park to compare it to work cost wise. i personally agree that price is pretty steep, i seem to remember having my clutch changed a few years ago for around £150. ring around a few garages maybe?

if you lived nearer to me i could recommend several people sadly :?

Well a clutch change on my type S was £650 not including the price for parts at £35 pretty for labour.

£300 ain't bad.

No conversion at all @laner84 - its a straight manual to manual gearbox swap from a non lsd box to an lsd box.

He is a mate but he is on of those mates who will not do mates rates lol. He is well known for modifying cars so I figured he would be the best person to go until I saw the price lol.

Is the gearbox a straight swap on a h22a8 motor. Some people say it is and others say it isn't. If Im going to get prices from other garages I just want to be sure im getting what im paying for.

Am not 100% sure but on my engine an gear box swop. From a f22 non lsd box to a h22 an lsd box same as yours. I had to get a 4th gen half shaft because the legs on the bearing are longer on a 5th gen. An it put the shaft into the gear box wonky. I don't know if this is because the engine is from a 4th gen or because of the box. Just thought would mention it

I thought all h series gearboxes were interchangeable. Much like the b series or the d series. I've done clutch changes before but not on a prelude (without the engine being out the car). My mum got quoted nearly £500 for a clutch change on her jazz just a month or so ago.

Arrrr the jazz is a knob to do a clutch on because of the starter bolts and bracket on the front, we did my first gearbox swap on my original silver prelude in under 2 hours with new clutch m2f5 to a lsd box everything went smooth apart from a non centered clutch
